Those of you who get the Woodworker’s Journal print magazine will know by now that we put a Mid-Century Modern-inspired project on the cover of our September/October issue: a tidy little nightstand made from walnut with painted drawer faces. The response has been interesting to me … especially as I am a biological product from right in the middle of the 20th century.
Personally, I am a fan of that style of furniture … perhaps it was imprinted on me in my crib. My wife (of the same vintage) thinks it is just ugly. (Don’t hold back, honey; tell me what you really think!) Personal aesthetics is like that, beauty being in the eye of the beholder — as we have been told. But, so far, there seems to be no middle ground when it comes to this little project. It’s love at first sight, or a despised dismissal.
Wherever you find yourself in this regard, rest assured that we will have another project in another style in the next issue.
That is just how we roll!
