In the book, originally published in 1937 and subtitled “The Classic Memoir of the Life of a Victorian Craftsman,” he provides a complete description of the working conditions and typical tasks of a 19th century woodworker, including the typical tools of the time and practical tasks ranging from windmill repairs, to coffin making, to furniture repairs.
