My shop vacuum serves as a dust collector for my table saw, belt sander and miter saw, so you can imagine how often I have to clean the filter. Blowing out the caked-on dust is a mess, but until recently that’s how I cleaned the filter.
Then my epiphany came: I bought a second vacuum filter. Now, when one filter plugs up, I swap it out with the other filter and just vacuum the dirty filter clean again.
This way, I always have a fresh filter ready to go, and I don’t have clouds of dust billowing in the air when I clean the filter. I should have thought of this trick years ago!
