A friend had two doors from the Detroit Train Station ticket office given to him by a neighbor. They were 1 and 1/8 thick and had unique pushbutton latch system. Between a missing hinge, brass metalwork and precision fitting of existing doors, the project was quite a challenge. Color matching was the most difficult as it had to be layered starting with a prefinish, orange shellac, gel stain and a water based polyurethane to even out pine and birch plywood.
