Can polyurethane or conversion varnish be sprayed over lacquer?
Kevin Hancock: It can, but it is not a very good idea. If the surface were to get softened from heat, the lacquer film would soften at a different rate than the topcoats. Eventually, the finish would fail. In the case of conversion varnish, there is a possibility for the solvents to soften the lacquer and then dry and trap the soft lacquer underneath.
