If I use a solvent-based stain, can it lift veneer off plywood?
Kevin Hancock: Not usually. The solvents in stain evaporate pretty fast and will not likely penetrate the wood enough to affect the glue. The one exception would be solvent stains over veneer that was recently glued on with contact cement. The solvents in NGR or lacquer-solvent dyes are capable of softening fresh contact cement.
