Setting Spindle Stock

When spindle turning, I like to make a shallow X shaped kerf cut on one end so it is easier to embed the spur center. I just cut a right angle groove (V shape) in a piece of 2X4 and place it against the band saw fence so the blade hits the bottom of the groove. I use this as a jig for square or octagonal spindles.
