Rockler’s Secret Door Kits let you turn a doorway into a secret passage or a closet into a secret storage space by constructing a bookcase that fits the door space and then functions as a hidden door. The kit hardware allows the bookcase to slide open like a door while securely mounted to the door frame or wall surface. The bi-fold bookcase can support up to 300 pounds and is fully functional for display or storage; opening the “secret” door does not disturb the items on the shelves. According to Scott Ekman, vice president of the marketing department, “Now people can build secret passages in their own home and experience a little bit of Hollywood magic any time they want.” The Secret Door Kits are sold in varieties including black, white, oak, knotty alder and maple, with pricing, depending on the wood type and size of the unit, starting at about $1,200.
