Recently, on one of my previously discussed trips to the South, I attended a new tool roll out by RIDGID power tools. One tool that caught my eye was their new laminate trimmer.
This heavy-duty little laminate trimmer is full of features, and when I fired it up I was favorably impressed. I used a standard bearing guided laminate trimming bit to clean up plastic laminate on a door. There was plenty of power, the tool was solid and easy to use and did the job just as it should. My ham-hand fit the router quite nicely, and I observed smaller-handed people (a couple of women specifically) who also complimented the grip. The unit’s soft start is a very sweet addition in a trim router and its ergonomic design is effective. Adjustable speed is a trim router rarity also packed into this diminutive tool. It’s got a thumb-wheel micro adjust, 1/4″ collet and a 6 amp permanent magnet motor that spins from 20,000 30,000 RPM. Available at Home Depot stores with a street price of around $99.00.
