What do you suggest for preventing pine kitchen cabinets from darkening?
Michael Dresdner: Pine will go darker with exposure to light, especially sunlight. The more it is kept in the dark, the less it will darken. Some finishes also get darker with exposure and time. Typically, waterbased finishes do not. While they won’t prevent the wood from getting darker, at least they won’t add to it. In come cases, you can slow the process by applying an exterior coating that contains UV absorbers, but I will tell you that the best you can do is slow it down. Eventually, the sun always wins.
