This woodworker is in the market for jointers and has seen some with levers and some with cranks on the infeed tables. Which is more accurate?
Michael Dresdner: It is really not a question of accuracy since the adroit woodworker can get accuracy with either. Depending on the thread size, a crank will let you control smaller amounts of movement more easily, while a lever is usually faster. I suspect it is more an issue of what feels better to you.
Simon Watts: I assume by ‘crank’ the reader means a wheel and threaded rod mechanism? You have more control with a crank because rotating the wheel a small fraction of a turn makes only a minute adjustment to the table. A lever is a coarser adjustment device and less predictable.
