I have a question regarding dust collection I have not yet seen addressed. Is there a practical, somewhat efficient method of dust collection on a 10″ Radial Arm Saw? I realize the saw sprays dust rather well, and various operations such as ripping might present a real problem.
Rob Johnstone: This is a tough one. The nature of a radial arm saw makes it particularly difficult to collect the dust coming off the blade. In addition, older saws may not have been designed with dust extraction as a desired feature. The obvious answer is to use flexible tubing attached to your saw’s dust port (assuming it has one) and connected to some sort of collection system. You will need to support it from the ceiling or from above in some way so there is sufficient play to accommodate the saw-head’s travel.
