There’s lots of information on finishing outdoor cedar furniture, but how do I finish an indoor cedar kitchen table?
Michael Dresdner: If we are talking about Western red or yellow cedar, any common interior finish will work just dandy, though for a kitchen table I’d go with oil-based polyurethane. Eastern red, also called aromatic cedar, will sometimes prevent oil-based finishes from curing. For that wood, go with water-based polyurethane, or seal the wood first with one coat of Zinsser® SealCoat™, after which you can use oil-based polyurethane.
