These tapered seats are made from dogwood. Years ago when living in Virginia a neighbor was about to build a house and at that location was the biggest dogwood tree I ever saw. I asked him for the tree and after it was removed he gave it to me. I cut it into boards and left it to dry for 20 some odd years.
Bugs had already gotten into the tree, but that just made the wood more interesting. The base is red oak stained pecan. The tenons are spread with wedges made of black walnut. I added a little turquoise to the seat tops just for a touch of color. The whole project was finished with tung oil.
