New tools for the shop do not always have to cut or rout to be useful. Storage is always handy and work surfaces are a must as well. So, how about a work surface that helps you make accurate cuts and stores easily, too?
DeWalt’s new miter saw stand at its most basic level is a bit like a saw horse on steroids, but a closer look reveals a very sophisticated design. The DW723 is made of space-age materials and is usable with all brands of miter saws. (DeWalt, however, is fondest of the black and yellow variety!) Although the portable stand weighs in at a mere 35 lbs., it can support a remarkable 400 lbs. It folds down to a little over 5′ long for storage and has a built-in carrying handle for toting it around. (It also hangs up nicely on the wall of a shop.) The legs fold up easily and its most important feature is adjustable sliding extensions joined to flip/stop supports. The work surface sits at a comfortable working level of 36″ high when set up for use and will support up to a 16′ long board.
While at first glance you might think of the DW723 as a construction site kind of tool, I can’t think of a woodworking shop that wouldn’t benefit from a miter saw stand that was strong, versatile and folded up (in just a couple of minutes) to create more room to work.
