Having spent a weekend being dragged around innumerable shops selling tables I relented and made my wife exactly what she wanted. She specified all the dimensions and the number of drawers. Dark woods are not popular in England hence the choice of pine. All the timber was recycled from building that was demolished years ago and left as a pile of rubbish. Total cost of this piece – £9 and that was the handles. The design is country farmhouse, all major tennons are doweled to make this consol table child and teenage proof. Most of my woodwork uses recycled materials hence I never make the same thing twice.
