A new woodworker wants to build a wooden screen door to compliment an arts and crafts house. Any tips on this kind of construction in terms of joinery?
Michael Dresdner: I think my first choice would be mortise and tenon, and second would be bridle joints. Either will stand up to the constant banging of the door, and both have large glue surfaces in the joint as well as solid shoulders for more support. Naturally, use only exterior (waterproof) glue, such as Titebond II, epoxy, polyurethane, or conversion adhesives.
