Last month Black & Decker introduced four new cordless power tools and five combination kits to expand its family of 20V MAX* Lithium-ion options. The same battery platform now powers some 30 Black & Decker tools, outdoor and home products. The new power tools include:
20V MAX* Lithium 1/2-in. Drill/Driver (Model BDCDHP220SB-2). The tool’s two-speed transmission delivers 0 to 350 rpm or 0 to 1,500 rpm, depending on mode setting, to provide up to 412 in.-lbs. at maximum torque. Its 1/2-in. tool-less chuck accepts a wide range of drill/driving accessories. A lightweight design and rubber overmolded grip should make the drill/driver more comfortable to use. It is sold with two 20-volt batteries, charger, screwdriver bit and storage bag for $99.
20V MAX* Lithium Impact Driver (Model BDCI20B). This impact driver produces up to 1,375 in.-lbs. of torque with a squeeze of the trigger. Its high-torque potential eliminates almost all reactionary torque to help minimize kickback situations. Variable-speed control provides from 0 to 3,000 rpm (0 to 3,900 beats per minute), and an ergonomic grip and rubber overmold offer secure control during use. A 1/4-in. hex chuck makes bit and accessory changes easy. The impact driver can be purchased as a bare tool without batteries for $59.99 or in combo kit form (see below).
20V MAX* Lithium Reciprocating Saw (Model BDRS20B). For $59.95, this new reciprocating saw makes fast cuts in either wood or metal, thanks to a 7/8-in. stroke and variable-speed control, which ranges from 0 to 3,000 strokes per minute. Tool-free blade changing adds convenience, and so does a pivoting shoe and rubber overmolded handles. No batteries or charger are provided (they are available separately), but the saw also comes in combo kit form and shares batteries with other 20V MAX tools.
20V MAX* Lithium 5-1/2-in. Circular Saw (Model BDCS20B). Whether you purchase this tool without batteries and charger ($59.99) or as part of a combo kit, it will cut lumber up to 1-5/8-in. thick when set to 90 degrees or 1-3/8-in. when tilted to 45 degrees. The base tips up to 50 degrees. The motor develops 3,500 rpm, and one fast-cutting wood blade ensures quick cuts. Depth adjustments are easy to make, using a quick-release knob. The tool weighs less than five pounds with a battery installed, to help minimize user fatigue during long cutting sessions.
Five combination kits: Two new 20V MAX* combo kits, each retailing for $99.99, provide you with a two-speed, 3/8-in. drill/ driver, one Lithium-ion battery and charger, storage bag and either the reciprocating saw (2 Kit BDCD220RS) or 5-1/2-in. circular saw (2 Kit BDCD220CS). There’s also a combo kit (BDCD220IA-1) that includes a 3/8-in. drill/driver, impact driver, battery, charger and storage bag for $119.99. Or, you can buy the same drill/driver and impact driver kit with two batteries instead for $129.99 (2 Kit BDCD220IA). Finally, there’s a 20V MAX* Lithium 4 Kit (BDCD2204KIT) that includes the two-speed 3/8-in. drill/driver, impact driver, 5-1/2-in. circular saw, reciprocating saw, flashlight, two batteries and charger, as well as a large storage bag, for $179.99.
Tool and combination kit availability may vary by retailer.
