The position of my radial arm saw and dust chute doesn’t leave room for a blast gate. Instead of building a custom blast gate, I found that a softball fits snugly into the intake and blocks the airflow effectively. I attached a handle to the ball and tethered it to the dust chute with a length of cord. That way, it hangs conveniently nearby while I’m using the saw. My “ball field” version of a blast gate should also work on any 4″ dust port in place of a conventional gate.
