I just retired as a professional chef, but I do love woodworking and have built some tables for our kitchen, for fly tying and a coffee tables as well. What I wanted to share is the use of white parchment paper. A full-sized sheet is 18″ x 26″, this can be used to sketch on, cut templates and it works well placed under items you wish to glue to help with any drips. It’s easily cut or ripped to size, stores flat in a box or can easily be rolled and placed in a large tube. Whatever you do with it, you’ll be surprised how well it works and it’s about $30 a case of 1000 sheets. You could even share some with your significant other so they might do some baking!
