There’s no need to settle for manufactured tongue-and-groove flooring stock if you have a router bit set to make your own custom supply. Infinity Cutting Tool’s new pair of tongue-and-groove flooring bits (item 61-511) offer a couple of unique features that should make the process of installing that flooring even easier.
First, the tongue-profile bit cuts a nail slot for recessing pneumatic flooring nails or staples so the heads won’t interfere when interlocking the pieces. Second, both the tongue- and groove-cutters form a rounded profile along their bottom edges to create a clear space for any debris on the subfloor that might otherwise get trapped between the pieces and impede the fit. A 1/16-in. expansion slot is also provided where the tongue and groove meet, to allow for seasonal wood movement.
These carbide-tipped bits each have a pilot bearing for easy setups at the router table and come with 1/2-in. shanks. The Tongue-and-Groove Flooring Set with Nail Slot, which can be used on stock ranging in thickness from 5/8- to 3/4-in., is available now for $109.90.
