For those of us in on the secret, trim routers have long been one of the handiest portable power tools in the shop. Although they’re designed primarily for trimming plastic laminate, woodworkers have never let that pesky detail stop them from putting these diminutive dynamos to work in general woodworking applications. Lightweight and easy to handle, these small routers have often been “just the ticket” for quick routing tasks, like edge roundovers, delicate cutting for inlay work, routing hinge mortises and even mixing drinks. (Just kidding about that last one …)
Now Ryobi is making the trim router even handier by removing the power cord. Their cordless One+ 18-volt Trimmer® P600 handles laminate trimming and other tasks fast and efficient. This battery-powered unit spins the bit at around 6,000 RPM. Part of Ryobi’s interchangeable ONE+18-Volt Tool System, this trim router has an oversized spindle lock for quick, one-wrench bit changes and a cam lever clamp for secure height adjustments. If you already own tools in Ryobi’s ONE+ 18-volt system, you can get up and running with this tool (sold exclusively at The Home Depot) for just under $50. If you do not own existing batteries and a charger, don’t fret — they’re sold separately.
