First in a new line of sanders coming out this year, DeWALT’s DW6423 5-in. Random Orbit Sander is part of the company’s Perform & Protect™ line of power tools. That means the sander is designed to provide a high level of one or more of three key features: control, dust containment or low vibration.
DeWALT reports that this new 3-amp sander meets all three criteria. In terms of improved control, the sander is one of the lightest in its size category, weighing 2.9 lbs. It stands just 140mm tall, and the short stature enables a closer hand position to the workpiece. DeWALT has also added more soft overmolding to the housing to improve comfort and grip. On the dust containment front, a rubber skirt between the sander’s hook-and-loop pad and the motor housing minimizes escaping dust, and the tool comes with a dust bag that locks in place with one hand. The sander’s dust port also connects to DeWALT dust extractors and others using a Universal Connector System (sold separately). Low vibration across the sander’s 8,000 to 12,000 variable-speed range is accomplished by an integral counterweight.
