Rust is a constant threat to steel hand tools, especially in basement and garage shops. Here’s a simple way to give yourself a little more peace of mind, without spending a cent for it. I save those desiccant packets that come in boxes of new shoes and toss one in each drawer of my tool chest. The desiccant will absorb moisture and help keep rust at bay. Chemicals don’t last forever, so pitch out the old ones every now and then and replace with fresh packets. These freebie drawer driers don’t offer complete protection, but they’ve got to be worth at least an ounce of prevention.
