My daughter asked me to make a porch swing for her friends who had recently purchased a house. I found the Porch Swing plans from Woodworker’s Journal and made it for them. It is made from redwood, stained walnut, and finished with 3 coats of clear finish. I made it 6 inches wider than the plans and added a slat to the back of the seat and to the bottom of the back. I also added a vertical support to the center of the back to support the center of the seat at the back. I installed the swing on their porch while the mother-to-be was in the hospital giving birth to her daughter, so it was waiting for them when they got home.
