Extended sanding sessions can be a punishing experience to your hands and arms, in terms of the usual vibration emitted by orbital and oscillating sanders. Late last year, Bosch launched a new random-orbit sander, the ROS65VC, with technology that should help make sanding less physically demanding.
The 3.3-amp variable-speed tool features two ergonomic soft grips: one on top of the motor housing and a second in front for two-handed operation. But, more importantly, the sander boasts a Bosch-exclusive suspension system that “softens the connection” between the sander’s dual-bearing pad mount and the motor/handles. The effect is a dramatic reduction in vibration, according to Bosch. It’s also Bosch’s first random-orbit sander that can accept either 5- or 6-in. pads. Dust is drawn up through holes in the pad and into either a Bosch Microfilter Dust Canister or a shop vac, via a vacuum hose adapter (both the canister and adapter are included).
Three different kits are available for the ROS65VC: one that includes a 5-in. hook-and-loop pad (8-hole) and sanding disc, a second provides the 6-in. pad (6-hole) and disc; each kit retails for around $229 to $239. Or you can buy a combination kit of both 5- and 6-in. options with a Bosch L-Boxx hard carry case for around $299 to $319.
