14″ Bandsaws?

What is measured that gives a 14′ bandsaw that designation?

John Brock: This is the throat distance, or the length of the longest piece that can be cut off.

Richard Jones: Blade to frame distance.

Michael Dresdner: The above is true, but be aware that the number may be rounded off. For example, the throat on my 20″-bandsaw is about a 1/4″ shy of 20′.
